About Archives and Special Collections

Student reading a book in Archives reading roomThe Archives and Special Collections department manages unique and distinctive collections that serve the teaching, learning, and research needs of our two universities. The department houses the archives of Loyola University Maryland and Notre Dame of Maryland University, manuscript collections, a rare book and map collection, and digital collections.

Our rich collections and staff expertise offer opportunities for the Loyola and Notre Dame communities, outside researchers, and community members to actively and creatively engage with archives and special collections. We offer research consultations, class visits, internships, and a variety of outreach activities including exhibits, open houses, lectures, and other events. Our staff works closely with both universities to transfer records with enduring historical value to our collections.

Our collections are open to all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the general public.
