The Innovation Station Policies and Guidelines
- Most equipment is available on a first-come, first-serve basis during posted building hours.
- Technology reservations are encouraged for qualifying equipment.
- Each equipment type is limited to one checkout per person. (e.g., One person cannot have two cameras checked out at the same time)
- Equipment kits are available for check out from the Help Desk and should be returned in the same condition they were received, barring normal wear and tear.
- All in-library equipment should be returned before closing. Machines do not run overnight!
- The Innovation Station printers are designated solely for makerspace projects (e.g., buttons, stickers, t-shirts).
- Large format printing is restricted to academic coursework, campuswide approved events, and professional presentations.
- The Library prohibits the sale of any items produced in the makerspace and the production
of items that:
- violate campus community standards, local, state, or federal laws.
- are unsafe, harmful, dangerous, or pose an immediate threat to the well-being of others.
- are obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the library environment.
- are in violation of another’s intellectual property rights. (e.g., copyright, patent, trademark)
- The Library does not assume responsibility for any personal property that is lost, damaged or stolen while in the makerspace.
- The Library is not responsible for any manufacturing defects in the quality of workmanship or materials inherent in any of the tools or equipment.
- Qualifying users are affiliates of Loyola University Maryland or Notre Dame of Maryland
University with a current institutional email address and ID card.
- To use the tools in the Innovation Station, a qualifying user, must agree:
- expressively to the policies, terms, and conditions as posted by the Library by submitting a qualifying form (e.g., Maker Information and Agreement Form, large format print request, assisted 3D print request, technology reservation) or completing a certification training.
- to complete certification training before using designated equipment.
- to use equipment in a manner that is safe, consistent with its intended purpose, and according to library policies.
- to seek Technology Services assistance/consultation when needed.
- to immediately discontinue use and report unsafe conditions or damaged equipment to library staff.
- to immediately report to library staff any personal injury accident/incident that occurs in the makerspace.
- to cooperate fully in any accident/incident reporting processes.
- to take precautions to avoid causing unnecessary mess or damage in the makerspace.
- to pay for the loss or damage to any equipment and further agree to accept the Library staff’s assessment of fair restitution for damage, delinquency and/or loss of items in part or total.
- to return work surfaces, tools and equipment to their original, before use, condition and notify Library staff when that’s not possible.
- to use library provided consumables efficiently, acknowledging that the library is only able to provide materials and supplies on a limited basis.
- to supply your own consumables to meet your individual project needs and ensure all supplies meet equipment specifications as described in equipment documentation.
- to report to Library staff any known misuse of makerspace equipment or violation of written policies.
